Unfortunately, Tom, to the organizers of these protests “democracy” is defined by Marcuse rather than the classical definition the founders wrestled with.

I’m not sure what percentage of the participants understand how they are being used to foment revolution.

My observation is as follows: The third reich used the aimless and idealistic youth of Germany before World War II to foment change. These youths were called the brown shirts because of the uniforms they wore. But once Hitler had accomplished his goals, he quickly disposed of them when they started to realize Hitler’s true aspirations. They are sometimes referred to as useful idiots.

Is this not what is happening presently in America? We have thousands and probably millions of aimless youth who are university educated but can’t find jobs that lead to a career. They owe more money for that education that will keep them in debt forever. Today’s idealistic world views are never going to produce anything substantial. But many of them now think that these ideologies give them meaning. They will eventually be disappointed.
